Oscars? Who really cares...

So the Oscars are over. I didn’t watch, but Avatar lost, which I found unbelievable, and even more shocking is that Sandra Bullock won for Best Actress, which is amazing, since I think she is one of the worst actresses. I saw the majority of the Blind Side, and she wasn’t anything special. People probably held Oscar parties, the whole country was tuning in, and people talked about it at work the next day.

But if you could people could just get their head out their ass for a while to see what’s going on in the world, things would be better off. So many things have happened recently. The ‘scientists’ who claimed to have discovered global warming admitted to hiding data, discovering errors, and that it really is not happening. But there are more violent things happening in the world, in places that people don’t care to know about. For example, in Nigeria, over the weekend 200 people died via machete in more religious conflict. Ask yourself, have you heard about this type of stuff? If not you can read about it here.

Real life is not the Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin on TV telling lame jokes, its the things you don’t see. I always thought if people put as much time learning about what’s happening out there as much as they do following celebrities, and who they are dating, the world would be a better place. But alas, Rome had the distractions of the colosseum to ensure people weren’t paying attention to the crap that was going on around them, and we have Sandra Bullock and a bunch of losers in tuxedos.

One eyed man buys hotdog

Eyepatch Fashion

I’m back in NJ this week, and while I was receiving my order a man came up behind me. Something seemed off, because he felt a little too close, but it turned out to be a middle-aged man, with an eyepatch.

I’m not sure if he saw the “Hot Dog” sign, or was just there to buy a pet (i.e. missing the word ‘Dog’), but its the first man I have seen with an eyepatch in a long time.  I was going to take a picture, but when I got my change back from the vendor, I left to the his left side, which was his seeing side.

But to those of you who live in Morris County, beware, the one-eyed hotdog man is out there!!

Fatties Unite

So I am not the skinniest person alive, but boy do I hate it when someone “big” sits next to me on the plane.  I have been flying a lot, and this has happened to me on more than one occasion.  So here is some potentially good news – AirFrance will not charge “big-uns’ for 2 seats if you are over a certain size.  I know it may seem mean, but your weight is your choice, and if you choose to be that big, then you need to be charged more as to not inconvenience the person next to you, or more importantly put them at risk in case of an emergency.  PS:  I think they should get two meals, if they pay for two seats, so that should be nice.  [Click the picture for the link to the story]

New York vs San Francisco

Okay, having come from the east coast I thought it would be good to get perspectives on NYC vs SF.

This is a quick list of items, feel free to add/comment:

Style: NYC.  When you go out at night, people seem better put together.

Weather: SF.  NYC is too cold in the winter time and too hot in the summer.  SF is a smooth 65-70 degrees all year round.

Lifestyle: SF.  More laid back (though you can’t get a decent meal after 10pm).

Politics: NYC.  They seem to be more progressive, and though not perfect, seem to have more problems, where SF politics never seem to get anything accomplished.

Public Transportation: NYC.  You can live without a car in NYC, but definitely need one in SF, given the lack of transportation options.

Diversity: NYC.  There isn’t anything you can not find in NYC.

Substance: NYC (but maybe out of my lack of experience in SF).  People in NYC seem to have more substance, and come across more genuine.

Cuisine: Tie. Both have great food.  SF seems to have better ingredients, while NYC seems to have it prepared better.  [NYC pizza, bagels, and donuts win hands down.  SF salads absolutely rocks.]

A McNuggets Emergency

What is the world coming to, when someone calls 911 because they want some McNuggets?  I mean, really.  If it were me, I would have swapped it out for two cheeseburgers, but whatever.  PS: How long does it take to make a nugget anyway?

Why does everything in SF close early?

So far the city has been great. It has a cool vibe.

So I live in the South Beach/SOMA area, and everything closes so early – the Safeway, the burger place, etc. More or less everything closes. I just want to grab a bite to eat, bad enough I have to do it alone, and its all shut down.

Is there anywhere in the city that’s not shut down?
